A modern audit workflow for firms that live in Tally
How progressive CA firms are replacing the export-to-Excel audit cycle with live-synced books: consent-based connection, verified syncs, continuous scrutiny and drafted working papers.
The default audit workflow in a Tally-centric practice hasn’t changed in fifteen years: ask the client for a backup, restore it, export ledgers to Excel, and start ticking. It works — but it burns weeks, samples instead of examines, and goes stale the moment the client posts another voucher.
What the modern version looks like
Firms that have modernised follow the same five moves:
- Connect once: a small agent on the Tally machine replaces backups and exports entirely.
- Consent explicitly: the firm approves exactly which companies sync — nothing moves without a tick.
- Verify every sync: total debits must equal total credits, to the paisa, or the sync fails loudly.
- Scrutinise continuously: automated checks re-run whenever the books change, all year round.
- Draft from the books: financial statements, CARO annexures and letters generated from actual ledgers, then reviewed by the partner.
What changes for the team
Articles stop being data-entry clerks and start being reviewers — they open a flagged check, look at the entries behind it, and decide whether it matters. Partners see the state of every engagement without asking anyone for a status update. And year-end stops being a cliff, because the scrutiny has been running since April.
This is the workflow EasyAnk ships out of the box. If your firm lives in TallyPrime, the switch takes one afternoon and one client — the first verified sync usually convinces the rest of the partnership.
